A finals de la dècada dels 50, des de la ciutat de Nashville, als EUA, la música country va patir una revolució definitiva. Apropiant-se d'instrumentacions més electrificades i d'arranjaments sofisticats i expansius, aquest nou híbrid va rebre el nom de "countrypolitan", i en pocs anys va esdevenir el subgènere més popular del country & western.
